Sunday Sermon: How to TRUST in God’s Timing | Marshawn Evans

This is a great article by Marshawn Evans! Useful steps to live by when you feel frustrated about the timing of situations in your life. Continue to Trust and have Faith!

image

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials
of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith
produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its
full effect, that you may be perfect and complete,
lacking in nothing. —James 1:2-4

Time and time again, I get to learn that God is more concerned with trust than talent.

More committed to our character than our career.

And, more interested in obedience than sacrifice.

Because of our desire to get what we want when we want it, though, we naturally tend to rush the process and try to put God on our timeline. We set our expectations high, create our own schedule and start racing toward that finish line. Then when our great expectations aren’t met, we feel frustrated because we haven’t met our goals.

I want to tell you that there is something that God wants more than your speed, your hard work and your mighty effort.

God wants your TRUST. (My acronym for TRUST, if you haven’t heard it before, is Total Reliance Upon Spiritual Timing.)

Not easy, right?

That’s because we want to orchestrate.

We want to direct.

We want to control.

Truth is, however, that we simply don’t know what’s best for us. We certainly don’t have Heaven’s vantage point.

And if we’re not careful we can get in the way of God’s intended blessing for us.

Think about Noah. Noah was obedient and patient. These qualities protected him and preserved his legacy and family. He trusted God’s instruction even when others doubted him.

He took the time to build the ark. After the flood, he sent a raven and a dove to “test” the land to see if it was ready for them. Then he waited for a clear sign that it was time. When the dove returned with a branch, Noah knew that the place for his “feet” was not ready. He knew that water still covered the land.

What would have become of Noah and his family if he’d ignored this message and decided that it was the right time to step out?

Noah’s story is a perfect example of the 5 steps required in truly TRUSTing God.

1. Press Pause. I like to say that “patience is protection.” As a coach and catalyst who helps MOVE people into the action side of faith, I am used to doing, creating, and producing. Being more patient is not always easy for me. But in order to experience the brilliant plans God has for me, I know I have to let the Brilliant One lead me.

2. Ask God for Confirmation. Seek first the kingdom and ask for a clear picture of what God intends for you. God will send you messages. Just like Noah’s dove, you’ll get a phone call at the right moment, bump into the right person or suddenly see the right path appear. But you need to ask Him, not your girlfriends of Facebook buddies…  Even though I believe in seeking wise counsel, there is no substitute for talking directly to God about His plans for you and your life.

3. Pay Attention to Your Intuition. The nudges you receive are God’s inspirational messages to you. Create quiet time to pray and listen. If you get an idea out of the blue to call someone specific, call them. Learn to listen, especially in times of stress or anxiety. A few moments of rest, prayer and meditation always reconnect you to what God is trying to tell you.

4.  Prepare While You Wait. Waiting is not a passive act. Preparing enables you to be ready to “step out” when the timing is right. Keep working diligently where you are, enjoying life, serving God and reaching out to others while you wait.

5. TRUST. Remember, we’re talking about TOTAL reliance. Not just part of you. Stop trusting the wrong things—yourself, your experience, your intellect. You need to trust with your whole heart because miracles aren’t going to happen if you give God just a small piece of your trust. So… even when you are frustrated, remember that every detour, delay and speed bump in your life has been divinely orchestrated.

Remember, God knows the ideal timing for you to arrive at your destination. God is the one who created time and He is in control. You’re never behind when you trust Him, listen to Him and follow Him.

Tell me, where are YOU struggling with trusting God’s timing?

What lesson do you think God is trying to teach you about patience, spiritual intimacy, and preparation? Where do you get stuck?

Let me know below. I look forward to hearing from you.

Meryl’s Sermon

image

“I no longer have patience for certain things, not because I’ve become arrogant, but simply because I reached a point in my life where I do not want to waste more time with what displeases me or hurts me. I have no patience for cynicism, excessive criticism and demands of any nature. I lost the will to please those who do not like me, to love those who do not love me and to smile at those who do not want to smile at me. I no longer spend a single minute on those who lie or want to manipulate. I decided not to coexist anymore with pretense, hypocrisy, dishonesty and cheap praise. I do not tolerate selective erudition nor academic arrogance. I do not adjust either to popular gossiping. I hate conflict and comparisons. I believe in a world of opposites and that’s why I avoid people with rigid and inflexible personalities. In friendship I dislike the lack of loyalty and betrayal. I do not get along with those who do not know how to give a compliment or a word of encouragement. Exaggerations bore me and I have difficulty accepting those who do not like animals. And on top of everything I have no patience for anyone who does not deserve my patience.” – Meryl Streep

Amen Sister!  My Mom sent this to me and it was posted on Facebook by a friend.  It sums up how I feel about situations and people in my life!

Cheers to not giving undeserving people your time, space, peace and happiness!

Viola Davis In Attorney Role

image

Can’t wait to get addicted to this show, How To Get Away With Murder. Read more about how Viola felt about getting this leading role in the NPR article below.

I was moved by what she said, so truthful “There is no way in the history of film or TV that you’ve seen a character like this played by a black woman who looks like me…Not even Kerry Washington or Halle Berry [looks like me]. I’m talking about a black woman who looks like me — a dark-skinned black woman with the nose, the age, in every way like me,” and Shonda Rhimes has brought her front and center.  I love it!  I can definitely relate to what she is saying, being a dark skin beauty myself and being told at a young age “You’re Beautiful for a Dark Skin Girl.”  Ha, even then I knew how to brush statements like that off and walk with my head even higher!

Good Deeds Wednesday

While I was on vacation, I was reading my friends book, The Secret~Daily Teachings by Rhonda Byrne.  Some how it made it’s way home with me
🙂  I like to read devotionals, it puts life in perspective when on a daily basis you hear about so much violence, sickness and injustice.  With the recent story of the teen being killed by the police, planes being shot down, ongoing fighting and killing in the Middle East, sickness in Africa, people committing suicide, and on top of all that we then have to deal with our own reality.  So I read these devotionals to know that life is more than us against them, me against you, you against me.  It seems that’s what every fight or violent act is about, someone else trying to get over on the next person.  For what?  I don’t have the answer.

I have been skipping around in the book and this morning I found this, Good Deeds Wednesday…

What's your good deed?

In the midst of chaos this week, perhaps today we can do something to diminish the acts of hate by doing something good for someone else, anything!

Cheers to making it to the middle of the week!

Summerize Your Winter Gear

I shop for dresses that serve a multi-purpose, making it work for me and not the other way around.  Having options is the ultimate time and money saver. So how do you do that on a budget? Shop accordingly, make the right choices to get more out of your outfits.   For example, this red Calvin Klein dress does a double-take.  It makes a debut for the fall, paired with boots tights and a jacket:

image

I am always near a train station it seems!

Then it makes a second appearance, with a hair change and peep-toe heels:

Apparently, I love train stations 🙂

Shop with a purpose, if your goal is to have the basics in your closet before moving to trends then start with that and see how you can use the basic black, red dress in different situations summer/winter, business/pleasure. Play around with it throwing on accessories or a jacket to change the look up to serve the particular purpose. Stretch your dollars by getting more out of that one outfit.
Cheers to getting two for one…

Friday Fashion Roundup

Casually reading my articles 🙂 Striking a pose in a grey and blue ensemble with my denim flats! Really been killing the flats these days...will bring back the heels soon, not yet. Wait for it lol

Stopped by my favorite Greek-inspired lunch spot, Pita Press, to grab a quick bite. Sidenote, have you been to Greece? Definitely a bucket list destination. Go to Santorini for romance then to Mykonos to party. Loved every minute of it when I was there. I pray, I go back again soon! Check out a random.pic I took while I was there.

Here are some of those articles I was perusing while I was waiting for my tasty lunch:

Happy 🙂

My friend's boots are HOT! She bought them in Paris, of course. You can rock boots in the summer. Why not! On a cool day with the right attire, it can be done. She pulled it off, using a summer palette of cream tones.

Have you been to Eataly yet?  You should not only go to this 50,000 square foot mega market and frolic through the open area, make it your business to visit the actual country.  Both are beautiful!

The summer is all about the rooftop gatherings. The other night I had the pleasure of dining at Birreria, Eataly’s rooftop restaurant. I enjoyed the atmosphere, food and wine.  If you are a beer connoisseur, this is also the place for you. You have the Flatiron Building and the endless sky in the backdrop as you dine. What can beat that on a nice summer day.
image

I have to tell you my lamb chops were succulent and seasoned to perfection! After dinner we had to take a stroll through the market and visit the dessert section. The Venchi Italian Chocolates, superb. This place is to die for, you must go!

Yum!

Black & White Mondays

image

I needed a great cup of coffee! I tried the Starbucks Reserve, Exotic Rare & Exquisite Brazilian blend, in honor of the World Cup. I tried it and loved it. I'm awake now 🙂

I spy lots of black & white today.  We all seemed to be on the same page with the color scheme.  I woke up this morning, not very peppy and needed something simple, no ironing required.  And there you have it a mixture of patterns, a floral dress paired with a black & white checkered suit jacket and pink heel. Don’t be afraid to mix your patterns you never know what’s going to work together!

Remember not everything in life is just Black & White!

Cheers to Monday…

Known To Walk Alone For A Reason

image

Minding my business, as usual!  Of course trouble comes to you.  Listen carefully, as I sing this line ” I’m known to walk alone, but I’m alone for a reason.  Sending me a drink ain’t appeasing believe me.”

Love that line from the Beyonce song. Just because you walk alone, doesn’t mean you are lonely. I walk to a beat of an entirely different drum. If people don’t get it, then it means that it is way pass their pay grade. There’s no upgrading in that situation! Sometimes the ones walking in crowds are the loneliest.

You have to love the skin you are in before you can walk with others!

Cheers!
